Finding info in a chat

The right-hand info panel — Media, Files, Links and Calls tabs that collect everything ever shared in a conversation. Plus search across all your chats including message bodies.

The longer a chat goes on, the harder it gets to find something specific. The messenger has two tools for this: a per-chat info panel that catalogues every attachment and link, and a global search that looks inside message text.

The info panel (right side of a chat)

Open any chat. On wide screens, the panel is already open on the right. On narrow screens, click the (i) icon in the chat header to slide it in.

The panel has four tabs.

Media tab

A thumbnail grid of every photo and video ever shared in the chat — yours and the other side's, in newest-first order. Click any tile:

  • A photo opens in full size in a new browser tab.
  • A video opens in a new tab where you can play it.

Soft-deleted messages don't appear here — if someone deleted a photo, it's gone from the media library too.

Files tab

Every other attachment — PDFs, audio files, anything that's not an image or video. Each row shows:

  • The file name (click to preview/open).
  • The file size.
  • A small download button on the right.

Same hide-deleted rule applies.

Every URL that's been pasted in a message of this chat. Auto-detected from message text — no special action needed when sending; just paste a link and it'll show up here later.

We're conservative about what counts as a link: only http:// and https:// URLs, not bare domains like example.com (because those are ambiguous and we'd surface a lot of false positives, like model numbers that look like domains).

Calls tab

Every SecureCall ever held in this conversation — newest first. Regular voice calls do not appear here (they're not recorded). Each entry shows the date the call ended, the duration, the file size and format, the recording status (Processing, Available, or Failed), and play + download buttons that activate once status is Available.

The recording typically appears a couple of minutes after the call ends — finalising and uploading takes a moment. Both you and the other party see the same list, with the same files behind it; neither side can edit or delete an entry. See Voice calls and SecureCall for the full set of guarantees and how to use the modes.

What if the info panel feels wrong?

  • Empty, but you remember sharing things — the panel reads from your currently loaded messages for the Links tab, and from the server for Media/Files. If you only just opened the chat for the first time today, the older messages above may not be loaded yet — scroll up in the chat to load them, then reopen the tab.
  • Slow, big chat — large media galleries can take a moment. The first 30 items load fast; older ones are paged.
  • Different from what your colleague sees — the panel only ever shows you content from chats you can see. Someone added to the group later won't see media posted before they joined.

Searching across all your chats

The search box at the top of the conversations list (left rail) does two things at once:

1. Filter the conversation list

Type a name or company, and the conversation list narrows to matching chats. Matching is on the same display name we use everywhere on the platform — seller display name first, company name for company accounts, full name otherwise.

2. Search inside message text

The moment you type two or more characters, a Messages section appears below the filtered chats. Each row shows:

  • The chat the matched message lives in.
  • A short snippet from the message, with the matched word highlighted in pink.
  • When the message was sent.

Click a row to jump to that conversation. The chat opens; in v1 we don't auto-scroll to the exact message yet — for now you can use the chat's own scroll to find it.

What the search covers

  • Your own messages and messages from other people, in any chat where you're an active participant.
  • Group chats you've left — not indexed; once you leave, you can't search messages from the period before.
  • Saved Messages content — yes, it's indexed and shows up.

What the search doesn't cover

  • Attachment file contents — we don't read inside PDFs or audio. The Files tab in the info panel is the right tool for "where's that contract".
  • Deleted messages — soft-deleted ones drop out of search.
  • Very short queries — a single character won't trigger a search; we wait for two.

The server returns up to 30 hits, newest first. If you're hunting an old message and only get recent matches, narrow the query.

Tips

  • Pin chats with frequently-needed info. The info panel is per-chat, so if you keep coming back to the same media library, having that chat at the top of your inbox saves a click.
  • Forward into Saved Messages as a bookmark. If you find a message you want quick access to later, forward it to Saved Messages — the snippet, attachments and original-author label all travel.
  • Use the global search instead of scrolling. The chat scroll loads ~50 messages at a time; search hits the database directly, so it's much faster on long histories.
